Louis B. Harrison, MD
Louis B. Harrison, MD, serves as the Clinical Director of Continuum Cancer Centers of New York and Chairman of Radiation Oncology at Beth Israel Medical Center and St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospitals. Dr. Harrison is an internationally recognized and extensively published expert in the areas of head and neck cancer, sarcomas, and intraoperative brachytherapy. He has been a leader in the development of multidisciplinary management strategies that prioritize cancer cure with organ and function preservation. In addition, Dr. Harrison serves as a Co-Director of the Institute for Head and Neck and Thyroid Cancer, and he is also a professor of radiation oncology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Before coming to Continuum,
he was the Chief of the Brachytherapy Service and Leader of the Head and Neck Cancer Disease Management Team at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Harrison received his medical degree from SUNY Downstate Medical Center and completed his residency training in Radiation Oncology at Yale. He is active in a variety of medical committees and professional organizations, including the American Board of Radiology, the Society of Head and Neck Surgeons, and the American Brachytherapy Society, of which he is a past- President. He is President of the International Society for Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (ISIORT) for 2005-2007. In addition, he has served as vice chairman of the Refresher Course Program for the American Society of Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology (ASTRO), and has been elected President-Elect of ASTRO for 2006, President for 2007, and Chairman of the Board for 2008. ASTRO is the largest professional society for radiation oncology in the world, and one of the leading professional
cancer societies in the United States.
