Lawrence Bernard Tena, MD Attending Physician – Radiation Oncology
Lawrence B. Tena, MD is an attending physician in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Beth Israel Comprehensive Cancer Center – West Side Campus (BICCC) in New York City. Dr. Tena is a board certified radiation oncologist with a specialty in brain, head and neck, eye, lung, gynecological, gastrointestinal and prostate cancers, as well as brachytherapy and stereotactic radiosurgery.
Currently, Dr. Tena is an attending physician at Beth Israel Medical Center, St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital and The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Tena is an assistant professor at New York Medical College. Prior to his current position, Dr. Tena was an attending physician in the Department of Radiation Oncology at St. Vincent’s Comprehensive Cancer Center in New York City for eight years.
Dr. Tena completed his residency in radiation oncology at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD and his internship in internal medicine at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA. He graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA, and received his undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering from Boston University. Before medical school, as an engineer, Dr. Tena completed certification in the service and installation of linear accelerators for radiation oncology at both the Philips Medical Systems Service Training Center in England and Varian Educational Center in California.
Dr. Tena has been published in numerous medical journals, most recently in Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics and American Journal of Ophthalmology. In addition, Dr. Tena has presented his research at several medical conferences across the globe including the European Cancer Conference in Paris in November 2005.
Dr. Tena is a member of several professional organizations including American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, New York Head and Neck Society, and American Society of Clinical Oncology.
