| Cardiovascular
disease is a common cause of morbidity and mortality for women and
men in the United States. Deaths from cardiovascular disease outnumber deaths
from all cancers combined and account for almost half of all deaths in women.
Numerous studies have demonstrated important gender differences in the response
to treatment for certain cardiovascular disorders. Despite the alarming
prevalence of cardiovascular disease in women and its potential for adverse
outcomes, the seriousness of this disease is often mistakenly perceived
by women and their treating physicians. Recently, many physicians and organizations
have begun to realize the importance of acknowledging the risk of cardiovascular
disease among women, in particular post-menopausal women, and the potential
gender differences in the prevention and treatment of these disorders. The hospitals of Continuum Health Partners have launched a multi-site Women’s Cardiac Care Network designed specifically for women who are at risk for, or have a history of cardiovascular disease. Screening evaluations, diagnostic and treatment services are available for a wide spectrum of cardiovascular diseases, including atherosclerotic coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, arrhythmias and heart failure. Our multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals provide a comprehensive cardiac health program. Our cardiologists incorporate all aspects of a patient profile including family history, lifestyle and health history to provide an individualized approach to care.
