Continuum Cancer Centers of New York offer state-of-the-art care to patients with cancer and their families. Our multidisciplinary team of oncology specialists provides coordinated, supportive and compassionate care in modern and convenient facilities.

For people who are about to begin a course of chemotherapy to treat their cancer, even the sound of the word – which simply means medication therapy – may make them fearful. But the anticipation is often worse than the reality. Today there is much less cause to be anxious about chemotherapy treatments than there was even a few years ago. Tremendous progress has been made with new medications that successfully control and, in many cases, eliminate several side effects. In fact, many people feel able to continue to work and participate in other daily activities while they are being treated for cancer. If you are about to undergo chemotherapy treatment, we hope that this information will help you, your family and friends understand what the experience will be like and will help guide you through your treatments. We want to address your concerns, answer your questions and, as much as possible, reduce your fears about potential side effects. We also have specific suggestions for dealing with any side effects that you may experience.

This guide is meant to supplement discussions with your medical team and to help you remember the details of those conversations. It is important that you ask your physician and oncology nurse any specific questions you may have, as they are the ones who best understand your treatment.
