Follow-up Care

Once you have completed your treatment for gynecologic cancer, a meticulous regimen of follow-up care will begin and continue for your lifetime.

Who's in Charge?

Your gynecologic oncologist will continue to provide you with follow-up care for up to five years after treatment – or longer if appropriate. If there is no sign of recurrence, your oncologist may refer you back to your primary gynecologist.

Physical Examinations

Routine physical examinations occur more frequently during the first two years following completion of treatment – generally every three to six months. Depending on the type of cancer, routine tests may include chest x-rays, CAT scans, sonograms, Pap tests and/or CA-125 test. Your gynecologic oncologist will also perform a physical examination which includes pelvic, rectal, and breast examinations.
