Pediatrics and Adolescence

Our adolescence HIV/AIDS program is fully staffed and provides comprehensive care to patients up to 22 years old. Our medical team is led by specially trained Pediatric HIV/AIDS doctors and nurses. Nutritionists meet with both patients and their families to design a food plan that promotes healthy eating and behaviors. The Social Work team provides individual therapy for patients in adapting to their illness, understanding HIV, prevention, and coping at a young age to deal with a difficult illness. Staff meets with each patient at every appointment to assess any therapeutic or case-management needs. Social Workers specialize in issues of disclosure with children and families. In addition, trips and parties are planned to enhance the lives of the patients and build community.

The AIDS Family Case Management Program (AFCMP) is designed to meet the needs of families affected by HIV by working with the entire family. AFCMP builds on family strengths and decreases isolation by allowing families to bond with other program members in a safe, non-medical environment. Services include individual, family, play, and couples therapy. Group topics range from parenting and independent living skills to art therapy. AFCMP also provides legal services, advocacy when dealing with outside agencies, music therapy from the Beth Israel Louis Armstrong Center for Music & Medicine and recreational events.
