Endocrine Surgery

Our endocrine surgeons offer expertise in the treatment of benign and malignant disorders of the thyroid, parathyroid, and adrenal glands, and pancreatic and gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors. The multi-disciplinary team includes colleagues from endocrinology, radiology, nuclear medicine, and pathology.

Surgical endocrine diseases include

  • Thyroid cancers
  • Hyperthyroidism
  • Compressive and substernal goiters
  • Hyperparathyroidism
  • Parathyroid cancer
  • Adrenal adenomas and adrenocortical cancer
  • Functional adrenal tumors (pheochromocytoma, Cushing syndrome, aldosteronoma)
  • Gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors, carcinoid tumors
  • Pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (insulinoma, gastrinoma)
  • Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndromes
  • Familial pheochromocytoma associated with genetic disorders
  • Pediatric thyroid & parathyroid disease

Operations include

  • Thyroidectomy with intraoperative recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring
  • Minimally invasive parathyroidectomy (with regional anesthesia, intraoperative parathyroid hormone monitoring, and same day discharge)
  • Central compartment lymph node dissection
  • Modified radical neck dissection
  • Laparoscopic adrenalectomy
  • Minimally invasive surgery of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and liver
  • Minimally invasive resection and ablation of neuroendocrine tumors of the liver

Cooperative research on endocrine neoplasia is performed with the Division of Endocrinology, Department of Medicine, and the Icahn School of Medicine.
