Vascular and Endovascular Surgery

The Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Division offers a full range of regionally recognized expertise in the latest therapies for the treatment of all aspects of arterial and venous disorders, including:

  • Abdominal aortic aneurysms
  • Thoracic aortic aneurysms
  • Carotid artery disease
  • Renal artery disease
  • Mesenteric vascular occlusive disease
  • Peripheral vascular disease
  • Surgery for hemodialysis access
  • Varicose veins and cosmetic vein conditions
  • Venous ulcerations

Treating Vascular Conditions and Minimally Invasive Vascular Techniques
Along with traditional, open vascular operations, the division’s vascular surgeons are able to perform many procedures with minimally invasive techniques, including endovascular aortic aneurysm repair, carotid artery angioplasty and stenting, lower extremity endovascular procedures, and laser vein treatment for varicose veins.

Because minimally invasive procedures allow treatment with local anesthesia and punctures or small incisions (as opposed to more traditional long incisions), patients benefit from less pain, less scarring, faster recovery and less complications, while enjoying excellent results. Patients who are otherwise too ill, elderly or hesitant to undergo open vascular procedures with general anesthesia, now have many options available to them using minimally invasive techniques.

Diagnosing Vascular Conditions
The Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Division offers state-of-the-art diagnostic capabilities with its non-invasive vascular laboratory. Patients are accurately diagnosed for numerous vascular conditions using on-site ultrasound, as well as other imaging modalities, such as magnetic resonance angiography (MRA) and computed tomography (CT) scans.

Interdisciplinary Support
Because of the nature of the vascular system itself and the collegial environment of Beth Israel Medical Center, the Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Division routinely integrates its treatment of patients and works closely with other services requiring vascular assistance including orthopedic spine surgery , head and neck surgery , genitourinary surgery, and surgical oncology .
