This center has greatly strengthened the educational and research mission of the pulmonary-critical care division. James P Mara Center continues to be funded. The mission of the Mara Lung Center is to develop programs that optimize patient care, education, teaching, and research and to enhance the lives of patients disabled by all varieties of lung disorders. The center provides support for several programs that enhance the training experience and provide research opportunities to fellows:

  • Grants - early detection of lung disease, smoking cessation, special center for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency
  • Local and national involvement in advocacy programs (US COPD Coalition, COPD Foundation, and New York and American Lung Association)
  • Involvement/presentation in conferences (COPD/Alpha 1 antitrypsin deficiency)
