Angiograms

Our interventional cardiologists use coronary angiograms to diagnose heart disease after other tests such as ECG/EKG or ultrasound prove inconclusive or incomplete.

The procedure is performed in a specially equipped cardiac catheterization laboratory, also called a cath lab. During an angiogram, a nontoxic dye is injected through a catheter into the patient’s arteries, and the arteries are examined under a fluoroscope (low-dose X-ray camera). The table the patient lies on and the camera are movable, so different angles of the heart can be viewed to determine if there are any blockages.

For a referral to an expert cardiologist at St. Luke’s and Roosevelt Hospitals in New York City,
call 1 (877) 996-9334.
