Trauma can result in cut, bruised or stretched nerves. The treatment depends on the nature of the injury. For instance, some overly stretched or bruised nerves heal on their own over time. Nerves damaged by burns, on the other hand, may require nerve grafting (portions of nerves are harvested from other areas of the body). Nerves that have been cut may be able to be stitched together.
