The Alan and Barbara Mirken Department of Neurology at Beth Israel Medical Center is a leader in the treatment of brain disorders and diseases of the nervous system. Led by Susan Bressman, MD, the Mirken Department’s team of highly-trained, board-certified physicians are experts in diagnosing and treating neurological conditions, including all the major subspecialty areas of neurology. The department is multidisciplinary by nature and includes adult and pediatric neurologists, sub-specialists in:
Many of the neurologists also deliver general neurological care and all of them are available to consult with their colleagues. Each of the divisions has clinicians who are nationally and internationally recognized for their accomplishments and the Mirken Department attracts patients from throughout the United States and other countries who are looking for innovative treatment programs delivered by physicians specializing in both clinical care and research. We take a multidisciplinary approach to caring for our patients in which the neurologist, neurosurgeon, nurse, speech therapist, neuropsychiatrist or neuropsychologist, physical or occupational therapist, and social worker all work together to focus on patient care. The department’s physicians are at the forefront of neurological research and collaborate with scientists at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and other major medical institutions to conduct clinical trials and translational research on neuromuscular and neuro-ophthalmologic diseases, stroke, epilepsy, and movement disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and dystonia. Additionally, through our neurology residency and fellowship programs, we are dedicated to training gifted young physicians to become the next generation of clinical experts and researchers in the field of neurology.
