Quality & Research

Nurses at Mount Sinai Beth Israel are committed to using research as part of their practice. Evidence-based practice is fostered in a number of ways. A nursing research committee and unit-based teams have been established to support this goal. Members of the committee represent nurses at all levels of practice, education and leadership and are guided by Beth Israel’s distinguished nurse researcher, Marilyn Bookbinder, RN, PhD, FPCN. In addition, liaisons have been made with affiliating schools of nursing to assure that students who have their clinical placements at Beth Israel comply with and advance research agendas. The essential elements of Beth Israel’s Research Philosophy are to foster:

  • Nursing science as a dynamic, interactive process between nurse, patient, family and the health care team.
  • Nurses in their development of positive, proactive and innovative approaches to patient care
  • Translation of nursing and medical research to provide outstanding nursing care.
  • Nursing at all levels use “best practices” in decision-making.
  • Nurses as Principal and Co-Principal Investigators and/or participants in hospital and community-based research projects.
  • Interdisciplinary approaches to improving patient and family outcomes.
  • Nursing research and evidence-based practice that will enable nurses at BETH ISRAEL to advance nursing science and contribute to national and international research agendas.
