Working with athletes helps us understand the body pushed to the edge of its ability. That knowledge keeps us at the top of our game, which benefits every patient. With vast clinical and research experience, nationally recognized sports medicine surgeons, and a close association with the department's other complementary divisions, our Sports Medicine division is in a unique position to take care of both the weekend warrior and the elite player.
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is located in the center of the knee and provides stability to the entire leg. It's also a commonly injured ligament, requiring surgical reconstruction, especially for those athletes wanting to continue their sport.
Our physicians perform a large number of ACL repair surgeries, and in many cases use advanced minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery techniques. There are now breathtaking changes in a patient's experience from a decade ago—what would have once incapacitated someone for six weeks and required a year's break from athletics, can now allow a return to daily activities within a week and back to sports in four to six months.
