Early and expert diagnosis is crucial
Oral and head and neck cancers are often found during routine dental or medical examinations. Your doctor may notice a swelling or lump in your throat or face. Your dentist may detect a sore that won't heal. Often, symptoms that persist such as hoarseness, sore throat, difficulty swallowing, pain or neck swelling may be the first signs of a problem.

Because head and neck cancers can look similar to non-cancerous conditions-and have similar symptoms-it's very important that you see a physician if any signs or symptoms persist for more than two weeks.

With early detection, most head and neck cancers can be cured.
