General Otolaryngology

Treatment options for every ear, nose and throat problem
A general otolaryngologist is often the first specialist physician you see when you have persistent pain, infection, discharge, swelling or numbness in your mouth, throat, tonsils, nose, sinus, ears or elsewhere in the head and neck.

The expert in general otolaryngologists at the Department of Otolaryngology at Mount Sinai Beth Israel are specialized physicians trained in both general medicine and surgery. We offer treatment for:

  • Obstructive sleep apnea, snoring, sleep choking and sleep-time breathing problems
  • Tonsillitis, pain or infection of the throat
  • Laryngitis, hoarseness, loss of voice
  • Swallowing or chewing problems
  • Thyroid enlargement or nodules
  • Reflux and congenital problems of the esophagus
  • Hearing deficits, dizziness, fainting and loss of balance, ear infections
  • Nasal congestion, discharge
  • Sinus problems

Using the latest fiberoptic diagnostic tools, our otolaryngologists can quickly identify disorders and quickly treat most common ear, nose and throat complaints. If further evaluation is needed, we are supported by Mount Sinai Beth Israel's full resources-head and neck radiologists, state-of-the-art imaging technologies (CT scan, MRI scan, PET scans), an onsite pathology lab- all located in our Department in the Phillips Ambulatory Care Center (PACC).

Our physicians are board-certified subspecialists trained to accurately diagnose disorders of the head and neck. Advanced ear, nose, sinus, and throat treatment options include:

  • Endoscopic and traditional sinus surgery
  • Surgical and non-surgical treatment for obstructive sleep apnea, snoring and other sleep disorders in conjunction with Mount Sinai Beth Israel's Sleep Health Center
  • Corrective surgery for breathing problems of the nose, larynx (voice box) or trachea (wind pipe)
  • Speech and swallowing therapy with our experts in Support Services
