Career Changers

Remember your dream of becoming a health care professional? Volunteer work is the perfect way to explore a new career field to see whether it is the right fit for you. With various opportunities throughout the hospital, Beth Israel provides you with a wide array of disciplines to explore.

  • Adult Emergency Room (Petrie Division & Kings Highway Division)
Gain valuable first hand experience by spending time in this area with clinical staff and patients.

  • Hospitality Desk (Petrie Division)
Hospitality Desk volunteers offer a warm welcome to visitors and provide directions to patient rooms and departments throughout the hospital. This is a perfect opportunity for outgoing individuals who enjoy interacting with the public and/or who want customer service experience. Volunteers must have basic computer skills and be willing and able to complete an online training and test. Fluency in Spanish, Russian or Mandarin is helpful, though not required.
  • Pediatric Emergency Room (Petrie Division)
Gain valuable first hand experience by spending time in Pediatric Emergency Room with clinical staff and our youngest patients.
  • Physical Therapy (Phillips Ambulatory Care Center)
Shadow and spend time with physical therapists before applying to schools to help decide if this is a career choice.

  • Raising the Bar on Customer Satisfaction (Petrie Division)
Volunteers who have an interest in becoming a health care provider in cardiology and/or neurology will be part of an inter-disciplinary team that provides the highest quality of care to our patients on those nursing units.

  • Surgical Advocate Program (Petrie Division & Kings Highway Division)
Volunteers are advocates stationed in the surgical waiting room to provide non-medical information to family members while they are awaiting surgery to be finished. Volunteers also accompany the family members to the PACU (Post Anesthesia Care Unit) to see their family members after surgery. Available weekdays only.
