Students

It’s not too early to start exploring a career path. By volunteering at Beth Israel, you will gain hands-on experience in a variety of areas and have the opportunity to interact with patients and medical staff.

High School Students
  • Office Assistant Opportunities (Petrie Division, Phillips Ambulatory Care Center & Kings Highway Division)
    Volunteers provide office support to various departments and special projects.

  • Patient Library Cart (Petrie Division)
    Volunteers provide reading material – current books and magazines - to our adult patients.

  • Pediatric In-Patient Playroom (Petrie Division)
    Volunteers play and entertain children with board games, computer games, arts and crafts while they are in the medical center.

  • Reach Out and Read Program (Phillips Ambulatory Care Center)
    Volunteers read aloud to our littlest patients as they wait to see their primary care physician.

  • Unit Assistant (Petrie Division & Kings Highway Division)
    Volunteers have the opportunity to experience a nursing unit first hand and volunteer in an inter-disciplinary team.  Students may have the opportunity to interact with patients and clinical staff.

College Students
  • Adult Emergency Room (Petrie Division & Kings Highway Division)
    Gain valuable first-hand experience by spending time in this area with clinical staff and patients.  
  • Diabetes Health Coach Program
    Through bi-weekly phone calls, Health Coach volunteers help diabetic patients lead healthier lives by improving their knowledge of diabetes self-management skills. Volunteers must be able make at least a six month commitment and have excellent communication and listening skills. 3-4 hours shifts are available Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Bilingual volunteers who speak Spanish or Mandarin are especially welcome.

  • Pediatric Emergency Room (Petrie Division)
    Gain first-hand experience with clinical staff whose dedication is pediatrics.

  • Physical Therapy (Phillips Ambulatory Care Center)
    Shadow and spend time with physical therapists before applying to schools to help decide if this is a career choice.

  • Unit Assistant (Petrie Division &  Kings Highway Division)
    Volunteers have the opportunity to experience a nursing unit first hand in an inter-disciplinary team. Students have the opportunity to interact with patients and clinical staff.
