Your hands and arms are needed to perform the simplest everyday tasks, from tying your shoes to turning a doorknob. Sometimes, through everyday wear and tear or through injury, the bones, tendons and joints that make up your upper extremities become damaged, and the result is pain and loss of normal function. Our board certified hand and upper extremity surgeons offer a wide range of treatments for conditions affecting this area, restoring optimal movement and function for our patients.
Our service specializes in problems of the hand, wrist and elbow, including:
• Congenital differences of the hand and upper limbs
• Peripheral nerve compression
• Fractures and dislocations of the hand, wrist and elbow
• Repair and reconstruction of hand-related sports injuries
• Arthritis
• Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
• Dupuytren's Disease
• Extensor and flexor tendon injuries
• Ganglion cysts
• Skier's Thumb
• Tendonitis and tennis elbow
• Trigger finger
Some non-surgical treatment options include:
Medications, such as low-dose oral steroids, cortisone injections,
and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines, may be used to treat many injuries,
sometimes in conjunction with a splint or therapy.
Splints and braces may be used for arthritis, carpal tunnel
syndrome, tendonitis, extensor tendon injuries, fractures, and other hand
and wrist injuries.
Physical and occupational therapy by certified hand therapists
can be used as part of treatment or as rehabilitation following surgery.
Some of our surgical treatment options include:
Repair and reconstruction of severe fractures
Ligament reconstruction or arthroplasty for arthritis
Surgery to relieve carpal tunnel syndrome
Surgery for tendonitis
Microsurgical replantation, for severe trauma to the hand and/or fingers
