The foundation of good health is understanding the body’s needs, practicing preventive care, and following a healthful lifestyle. The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Long Island College Hospital is committed to providing our patients with the information they need to maintain life-long health. To that end, we offer a variety of health education programs for women at all stages of life.

Family and parent education
LICH wants to help you meet the challenges of pregnancy, birth, and starting a new family by offering an array of educational programs, including:


• Childbirth classes and refresher courses in Lamaze and cooperative methods.
• Prenatal yoga.
• Breast feeding.
• Newborn care.
• Child safety.
• Sibling preparation.
• Tours of labor and delivery suites.

Health and lifestyle workshops
How you manage your daily life has a direct impact on how you feel. At LICH, you’ll find a variety of workshops providing the information you need to make healthy choices for yourself and your family.

Among our healthy living practices education programs are workshops on:
• Nutrition, including healthful cooking and food preparation.
• Herbal and dietary supplements.
• Exercise classes, including yoga and Pilates.
• Stress management.
• Smoking cessation.
• Women’s cancer screenings.
• Prevention of sexually transmitted diseases.
• Family planning.

In order to reach as many people as possible, LICH classes are held days, evenings, and weekend, and many are available in both our Brooklyn Heights and Park Slope locations:
• 97 Amity Street in Brooklyn Heights/Cobble Hill.
• 1 Prospect Park West in Park Slope
