INTRODUCTION

Radiology is a field encompassing not only diagnostic testing but also treatment and prevention of different illnesses. There are many misconceptions about radiology that can be remedied by preparing the patient with information before the day of testing.

For the patient, anxiety can be an overwhelming part of receiving a diagnostic test. At times, a patient's fear may even cause a feeling of detachment from their environment. Education can sometimes go a long way in calming the anxiety and concerns patients and their families may have. The first step in educating the patient is to understand what happens during the testing process. Not all types of radiologic tests use harmful radiation. Some tests such as an MRI use energy forms that are very safe and harmless to patients. Radiologists are highly trained professionals who are skilled in operating diagnostic equipment and know how to protect patients and themselves from excess radiation exposure.

Continuing new developments allow for more precise diagnostic procedures and increased comfort for the patient. Our radiology staff works with the patient in order to keep them as informed, comfortable and safe as possible.
