Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery

The Center for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery at Roosevelt Hospital in Manhattan, New York City offers the least invasive spine surgery techniques for treating conditions of the lumbar, thoracic and cervical spine. Led by expert spine surgeons Noel Perin, MD, and Eric Elowitz, MD, our unique blend of services includes evaluation and treatment of severe back and neck pain, degenerative disc disease, herniated discs, traumatic injuries, scoliosis, cancerous and non-cancerous spine and spinal cord tumors and many other spine conditions. Dr. Perin and Dr. Elowitz are experts in minimally invasive spine surgery, and Dr. Perin is one of the very few spine surgeons who perform endoscopic thoracic spine surgery, which dramatically reduces recovery time.

Compared to open spine surgery, which can require a long incision and lengthy recovery time, minimally invasive spine surgery is performed through very small incisions with the aid of a video surgical tool called an endoscope, which gives our spine surgeons a magnified, clear image of the affected area. Because the instruments are so small, muscle and tissue can be moved out of the way to reach the spine, rather than cut, greatly minimizing surgical trauma.

The benefits of minimally invasive spine surgery are many:
  • Less muscle and tissue damage resulting in less post-operative pain and disability
  • Better mobility and rehabilitation sooner after surgery
  • Earlier discharge from the hospital to return to work and recreational activities
  • Excellent cosmetic results (less scarring)

Our physicians are a multidisciplinary team of specialists in neurosurgery and thoracic surgery, and our team approach enables patients to benefit from multiple specialists' knowledge of the latest advances in diagnosing and treating spine disorders and diseases.
