Heart Failure Congestive Heart Failure is a disease of epidemic proportion in the United States. In fact, it is currently the leading cause of hospital admissions for patients over the age of 65. The Heart Failure Program at Roosevelt Hospital, led by renowned heart failure expert Marrick Kukin, MD seeks to improve a patient’s quality of life and reduce his or her risk of death from this coronary condition. Traditionally, specialized heart failure treatment centers have focused on patients with end-stage heart failure. These patients are evaluated for how well their therapies are working, their need for a heart transplant, and whether experimental treatments being tested in clinical trials may help them. This approach, however, does not help a vast majority of congestive heart failure patients, many of who are relatively asymptomatic. SLR’s Heart Failure Program focuses not only on end-stage heart failure patients, but those with earlier stages of the disease in the hope that treating them now will improve their long-term outcomes and quality of life.
The Heart Failure Program at Roosevelt Hospital is on the leading edge of scientific and clinical developments in congestive heart failure and feature services such as:
When patients are referred to our Heart Failure Program, a physician and a nurse practitioner evaluate them, and ancillary support staff coordinates individualized treatment plans. All diagnostic and therapeutic decisions are made jointly with the referring physician, unless the patient requires immediate intervention.
