We provide  psychiatric evaluations for children under the age of 18 years old and their families who are experiencing behavioral or emotional mental health problems. Following a telephone screening with the parent, legal guardian or referring professional, we schedule an intake appointment. The evaluation can be up to three sessions.

A clinical interview is conducted by a social worker, psychologist or psychiatrist, or a trainee of one of these disciplines.  The Attending Psychiatrist joins this meeting to understand the history of the presenting problem, the psychosocial stressors and strengths of the child/adolescent and the family, medical history, developmental history, substance abuse history and develops a working diagnosis. During some evaluations paper and/or computerized questionnaires are given to the family and school personnel to complete in order to arrive at a clearer diagnosis.

The results of the evaluation are discussed and the clinician and family begin the process of mutually determining the goals and modalities for treatment (individual, group, family, medication management, case management). If for any reason we cannot offer the appropriate services, we offer information and referrals for outside agencies.

To set up an appointment, please call the intake staff at (212) 523-3082. Intakes are scheduled on various days and time in the morning and early afternoon hours.

In addition, we offer a crisis service for patients who have been seen at the pediatric emergency room, who are being discharged from inpatient psychiatry units and others who may be in crisis. Expedited evaluations are offered and short term crisis work, including case management and stabilization with medication is offered. This service operates Monday-Friday. Please call for an appointment.
