Physical and Occupational Therapies
By doctor's referral, patients who have been discharged or other members of the community who are in need of rehabilitation can take advantage of our comprehensive outpatient rehabilitative program.

This program provides direct physical and occupational therapy treatment, consultation and education. Typical patients include those with upper and lower extremity fractures, tendonitis, repetitive strain injuries, arthritis, lumbar/thoracic/cervical pathologies, hand and wrist injuries, vestibular conditions (imbalance and dizziness), neurological conditions (such as stroke), respiratory and cardiac conditions, chronic pain, and those needing orthopedic post-operative care.

Through the use of manual therapies, modalities, exercise plans, movement reeducation, splinting and equipment evaluation, the therapists provide a comprehensive program that seeks to restore pain-free, normalized function to people of all ages, increasing independence at home, work and in daily activities.

We use various modalities to aid treatment or to enhance the ability to perform exercises, including: splints, hot and cold packs, various electrical stimulators (such as a TENS unit) to manage pain, ultrasound, and various heat therapies including fluidotherapy and paraffin.

Patients are seen for their therapy weekly, in sessions that are a minimum of 30 minutes. The therapists communicate with the referring physicians by telephone or in writing to inform them of progress in therapy. All patients are provided with ongoing home programs and education.

Outpatient treatment takes place in the rehabilitation gyms and private treatment areas.

Speech-Language Pathology
This program offers comprehensive services for infants, children, and adolescents with speech and language delays, stuttering, swallowing and voice disorders. In addition, speech language pathologists evaluate and treat adults with a wide variety of disorders including problems with speech, language, voice and cognition resulting from cancer, stroke and other neurological conditions (including Parkinson’s, traumatic brain injury, and multiple sclerosis). Swallowing disorders are generally assessed and then treated based upon results of modified barium swallow studies. These studies are performed in conjunction with radiologists and assess the oral and pharyngeal phases of the patient’s swallow function.

Computerized augmentative communication devices are available for patients, and are programmed and modified to meet each individual’s communicative needs.

Therapists work closely with a multi-disciplinary team to collaborate to improve the patient outcomes.

Audiology
This program evaluates and treats patients of all ages. We perform complete auditory and vestibular evaluations, threshold and diagnostic auditory brainstem response testing, cochleography evaluation, and hearing screenings for newborns as a part of the universal newborn hearing screening program.

Vestibular Program
This program is for patients struggling with vertigo, dizziness or other balance issues. Various rehabilitative techniques are used to correct or compensate for the condition. The program has a SMART Balance Master, a computerized posturography system that specifically addresses this syndrome.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation
This 10- to 12-week program helps patients living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (often called COPD, which can include patients that have combinations of bronchitis, asthma and emphysema) learn how to manage in their daily lives while conserving energy and breathing efficiently.
