It is the nature
of physical medicine and rehabilitation that everything we do can be categorized
as "patient education." That being said, specific education initiatives
of St. Luke's and Roosevelt Hospitals include:
Pulmonary Patient Education Wellness Lectures
These classes are given once a month on a drop-in, outpatient basis, and teach patients living with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (often called COPD, which can include patients that have combinations of bronchitis, asthma and emphysema) how to manage in their daily lives while conserving energy and breathing efficiently. Specific attention is also given to medication, nutrition and exercise. Please call (212) 523.5471 for more information about the schedule and location.
Community Outreach
Our audiologists frequently conduct hearing screenings at various health
fairs throughout the community.

Student Education Programs
We have a large education program for physical and occupational therapy, speech-language pathology, and audiology students, with ongoing contracts with many schools around the United States. The students are assigned to one supervisor who is responsible for their training and mentoring. Students are given projects, assignments and in-services to present to the facility. Each student is guided by his or her supervisor to ensure the most positive learning experience.
