Teaching Opportunities

  • 154 internal medicine residents
  • 22,500 medical admissions yearly
  • 1,076 beds between both sites
  • Medical, surgical, and neurosurgical intensive care units at RH
  • Medical, surgical, cardiac, cardiothoracic intensive care units at SL, as well as dedicated Pulmonary Step-down beds
Throughout your fellowship, you will experience daily interactions with other housestaff and services, who will rely on your knowledge and leadership for learning and patient care. Each ICU team is composed of 8 residents from different services such as internal medicine, emergency medicine, and obstetrics/gynecology.

Aside from daily rounds in the intensive care unit, the ICU consult services, Pulmonary Step-down, Pulmonary Consult, and Chest Clinic services also have assigned internal medicine residents, allowing for ample teaching opportunities.

Code and procedural training in the simulation lab is run by the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care, and Sleep Medicine attendings and fellows.

Bimonthly internal medicine resident conferences led by our attendings and fellows on ultrasound techniques, echocardiogram, noninvasive and mechanical ventilation are also scheduled.
