Help Deliver The Healing Power of Music

Volunteer musicians bring their talents to the bedside of patients in healthcare facilities. They are accompanied by volunteer guides who are familiar with the facilities, and serve as liaisons between musicians and patients. This enables the musicians to concentrate their performances for each patient.

If you are interested in volunteering as a musician or guide, please contact MUSICIANS ON CALL at (212) 741-2709, or on the web at www.musiciansoncall.org.

The Good Dog Foundation: Dogs Helping Humans Heal

The Good Dog Foundation certifies dogs to deliver pet therapy sessions, which involves dogs bringing joy to patients while they recover.

If you are interested in getting your dog certified for pet therapy, please contact The Good Dog Foundation at (888) 859-9992, or on the web at www.thegooddogfoundation.org/index.html

Volunteers of the Year

St. Luke’s has been graced with the presence of Maria Morban since 2007. Maria volunteers on 9W; with Infection Control; is a Volunteer Rape Crisis and Domestic Violence Advocate for Crime Victims Treatment Center; and is a Patient Researcher for the Center for Comprehensive Care. Maria is always willing to lend a hand, train new volunteers, and volunteer in new programs; regardless of the task Maria has a smile on her face and a ready set of hands. Maria has been a vital asset to the St. Luke’s Volunteer Office.

Ken Gorsuch volunteers in several departments of Roosevelt Hospital. He volunteers as Unit Support for one of our medical/surgical units which has an extremely high turnover rate, a host in our main lobby, and provides office support in Cardiology and Neurosurgery. Ken is an excellent listener with a wonderful bedside manner, is patient and does not impose his views on anyone; he is very sensitive to the needs of others. Ken also has a great sense of humor. These attributes have allowed Ken to be an excellent trainer of new volunteers. Ken is very generous in the time he gives to Roosevelt and we are honored to have him as part of our volunteer team.
