Adult Body Composition Study
Summary: We are inviting the senior citizen community to take part in a research study funded by the National Institutes of Health that will gather data about body composition in healthy adult volunteers. These measurements are extremely valuable in understanding the biological changes with aging, and in managing many illnesses (all of them more common in aging) for which the best treat- ments depend on accurate knowledge of body composition. Criteria for Participation: Our tests require about three hours. These include tests of blood glucose, sodium, potassium, chloride, cholesterol, protein, and various others; a detailes medical history filled out by the volunteer; total body potassium, total body water, bone mineral density, total fat and muscle. Benefits and/or Compensation The benefit to the volunteer is a sophisticated medical check-up, which includes several standard laboratory tests, and several research-level studies of body composition. We will report these tests to your doctor on your request. |
